The Boss at our enterprise suggests that in all areas of our lives, there are three questions that, when honestly answered, create a bedrock of information that help us move forward in a positive manner. Those questions are
- What if…?
- What can you see?
- How do you feel about…?
In a recent post entitled “Inflation and Your Strata Managed Home,” we explored the “what if” proposition to the ever menacing reality of Inflation to home operating costs. This time I’d like to poke around a bit at the question “What can you see?” as it relates to determining next steps through simple observation.
We’ve all heard about the horrors of “discovering” damage to our home at that point in time when the only obvious solution is to get out the wallet, pay an opportunistic contractor, and hope they don’t find more damage as our home is reduced to skeletal components revealing more damage than we had anticipated. We’ve posted about tenants who will likely lose their home because of the millions of dollars in repair work needed because they didn’t “see” what was coming.
We are always amazed that in most cases like this, an early infrared inspection combined with a “Predictive Analysis,” would have revealed the trouble and demonstrated how the cost of repair could have been drastically reduced, or avoided altogether. As responsible home owners or diligent Property Managers, or fiscally adept Council Members, we shouldn’t need to be sold on the concept of paying less now to avoid more costs later, along with the loss of reputation, tenants or consistent income.
And yet, many are unable to “see” beyond the initial outlay of cash needed, or somehow justify immediate cost avoidance as an answer to longer term fiscal wisdom. But it just doesn’t work this way!
We are experts in our field, and our field encompasses all aspects of building integrity, from analysis, to reporting, to recommendations that extend the life of your home, at a lower cost than waiting brings.
